Fred Buyle
Ambassador•Underwater Photography

Before becoming a professional photographer, Fred Buyle was a competitive freediver. In 2002, he realised that the underwater photos featured in magazines and books were not an accurate reflection of what he was seeing on his dives. It was in that moment that he decided to begin capturing the underwater world as he saw it during his competitions. Interest in his work from news publications and magazines quickly followed and it opened up a whole new career path.
Through my photography, I can depict the underwater world in its most natural state.
When I first started shooting underwater back in 2002, I used a COOLPIX 500 in an underwater housing with a wide angle converter. Fast forward decades later and I no alternate between the Nikon Z 6 and Z 9, always accompanied by wide angle lenses to ensure I get the best perspective when deep underwater.
